DHA to Participate in Clear the Shelters™ 2021

DHA To Participate in Month-Long Clear the Shelters™ Pet Adoption Campaign

This year’s campaign will host a month-long pet adoption event including discounted fees, in addition to a single day of waived adult adoption fees.

WILMINGTON, DE, August 18, 2021 – Delaware Humane Association (DHA), a statewide animal welfare organization with adoption centers in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, is once again teaming up with shelters across the country to find loving homes for companion animals as part of Clear the Shelters. This special nation-wide “Adopt & Donate” campaign officially runs from Monday, August 23rd through Sunday, September 19th. Throughout the campaign, DHA joins NBC10 Philadelphia and Telemundo 62 to encourage the local community to help “Clear the Shelters!” To encourage potential adopters, all adoption fees at both Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach adoption centers will be reduced between those dates. DHA’s mission is to make friends for life by connecting people with animals and by building strong relationships to better serve the community – and their participation in the nationally recognized adoption initiative, Clear the Shelters, does just that.

Since 2015, DHA has participated in the Clear the Shelters national campaign, but the event typically only lasts a single day. This year, DHA is running a special promotion for all adoptable animals throughout the entire campaign month by offering $25 off all animal adoption fees, including puppies and kittens. Ongoing specials will also be valid as well: adoption fees for animals waiting over 3 months from date of availability are reduced by 50%, and the fee for any animal waiting over 6 months from date of availability is automatically waived. Additionally, DHA will completely waive adoption fees for all adult animals adopted on Saturday, September 18th, in both Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach. All of DHA’s adoptable animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for heartworm (if of age) and FeLV/FIV, microchipped, and examined by a veterinarian. DHA asks all adopters to please fill out an online adoption questionnaire before visiting to ensure the best match is made: https://delawarehumane.org/adopt/how-to-adopt.

“Clear the Shelters transitioned to a month-long virtual event due to Covid-19 last year, whereas this year we’re thrilled to not only offer discounts for a full month, but also waive fees for a big adoption push day on Saturday, September 18th,” says Patrick Carroll, Executive Director of DHA. “We anticipate that the month-long promotional event, in conjunction with a single full day of waived adoption fees, will help connect more of our adoptable animals with loving homes than ever before.”

Delaware Humane Association, along with participating animal shelters across the country, have been able to help over 20,000 animals find their forever homes since 2015 through Clear the Shelters. It’s because of DHA’s supporters that they are able to provide discounted pet adoption services to their beloved community. To contribute to DHA, please visit https://delawarehumane.org/donate/.
