WELCOME HOME, CHARLES 🥰🎉 After 891 days, our longest resident found his forever home!

Charles came to HAP in 2021 from a shelter in Alabama, where he was found as a stray and at risk for euthanasia. Upon intake, he was friendly and very loving with our staff and volunteers. However, he does not like dogs or cats, which made it harder for him to find a home. As time passed, Charles grew very stressed in the shelter environment. The longer he stayed with us, Charles became reserved with new people and took some time to warm up to affection from strangers. We knew he would benefit from a foster home, where he can relax and be his true self. His foster mom, Christina, provided him with enrichment, exercise, socialization, and most importantly, love!

After 2.5 years, Charles had come so far but sadly, he wasn’t receiving any interest. We had shared his story dozens of times, but still no one wanted him. Despite this, our staff remained hopeful that his person would come along and we were so happy when Jenifer reached out!

After hearing Charles’s story and reading about him on our website, Jenifer asked to meet Charles. While Charles has previously been reserved and stuck by his friends, he wiggled right up to Jenifer and looked back at our staff with a massive smile across his face. We truly had never seen him bond with a new person so quickly. Understandably, our team is very close to Charles, but his reaction to Jenifer was so clear…Charles had found his person! Before adopting, Jenifer made sure all his shelter friends could stop in to see him off! It has been a month now and here’s what Jenifer has to say about him:

“Charles has been great! He’s been to the groomer and plumped up from treats! He greets all the neighbors every day, while protecting me from the bees and squirrels. He loves to make sure I’m very warm at night. I try to take pictures of him but honestly he’s always so close to me, it’s difficult!”

Thank you, Jenifer, for giving him a chance and providing a loving home for Charles! 💙🎉🥰

‼️NO WALK-IN WELLNESS‼️We will not be open for walk-in wellness appointments at HAP Wilmington this Wednesday, April 24.

If you were planning to walk-in, please call HAP Wilmington at (302) 571-0111 to schedule for an appointment as soon as possible. As a reminder, walk-in appointments are NOT for emergency circumstances. If your pet needs urgent care and you are seeking resources, please call us and our team can direct you to your nearest emergency hospital.

Walk-In Wellness will return next Wednesday, May 1 from 10am-12pm at HAP Wilmington. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your understanding!

HE DOES IT ALL 👏❤️🏆 For day 3 of National Volunteer Appreciation Week, we are highlighting a volunteer that had the highest number of volunteer hours at HAP Rehoboth Beach last year!

In 2023, Tim dedicated 300+ hours of his time to our animals, community, and staff! Tim participated in over a dozen community events with HAP, providing resources to pet owners and introducing our animals to potential adopters. Tim is an active volunteer in HAP’s Doggy Day Out program, taking dozens of trips with our pups outside of the shelter! He also will help to socialize our dogs in new places by taking them to local pet-friendly restaurants, beaches, and parks!

In addition, Tim participates in our Foster program, taking some of our more stressed and anxious dogs home for the weekend. This is a tremendous help to our dogs and provides them with the opportunity to decompress. Tim provides detailed notes on our dog’s behavior in a home environment, which our team can then share with potential adopters! Tim truly goes above and beyond to support animal welfare. We are so grateful for all of his support. THANK YOU, TIM🥰🎉🐾

MEET RAIDEN🐱🧡 This #HAPMeowyMonday our gorge

MEET RAIDEN🐱🧡 This #HAPMeowyMonday our gorgeous guy, Raiden, is making his debut!

Raiden is a 2 year old energetic, lover boy! He came to HAP from a high-intake shelter partner in New Jersey when they no longer had space for him. Despite being bounced around quite a bit in his short life, this little man is one of our happiest nd friendliest kitties! He currently lives in our free-roam room, where he LOVES his fellow feline friends! Upon entering his room, he is sure to run right up to you to introduce himself. He first won us over for his piercing orange eyes, like a burst of sunshine, and super soft buff coat. As we got to know him, Raiden is so much more than just a stunningly handsome man. Raiden keeps us all entertained with his goofy, playful, and sometimes sassy personality! His favorite activities include throwing toys for himself, laying on top of his kitty friends, purring away like a motor, and following human friends around until he gets the love he longs for.

Raiden is definitely an energetic boy, that would do phenomenal with another cat to play with in a home! Due to his playful, gentle personality, we believe he would likely do well with children too!
