Right now, HAP and other shelters throughout the country are experiencing lower adoption rates. Higher intake numbers and fewer adoptions mean that more resources are needed to ensure the animals in our care have everything they need, including medical treatment, food, and staff support as they await their families.

With animals waiting longer for adoption, it’s that much more critical that the cats and dogs in our care—especially those who are nervous in the shelter environment— receive above-and-beyond attention and enrichment. Food puzzle toys, special exercise activities, and training sessions with our committed staff stimulate the minds and calm the nerves of anxious animals, preparing them for their new homes.

THE LOVING LUCAS🥹💙 This #HAPMeowyMonday we are pleased to introduce a kitty that is happy to love anyone he meets, Lucas!

Lucas is a lovable, snuggly 1 year old tabby. He came to HAP when his owners were no longer able to care for him. Despite being at the shelter, Lucas settled right in and quickly opened up with all of our staff and volunteers. He rose to fame for his adorably round bunny ears and his social personality. Lucas truly loves everyone he meets, leading us to believe he may do well with children! When he's not lounging on the tallest cat tree, he can usually be found purring away in someone's arms. Lucas currently resides in our free-roam room with several feline friends. He is sure to let them know when he needs some space, but overall coexists well with other kitties!

Grateful doesn’t even begin to describe how incredible it feels to look back on our adoptions at the end of every week.
