MEET MAEVE🐶💖🐾 This #HAPWoofWednesday we are reintroducing one of our longest canine residents, Maeve!

Maeve came to HAP when she was just 6 months old. We rescued her from a high-intake shelter in Louisiana, where she was at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space. Now, a year later, this sweet girl is still waiting to find her forever home!

We’ll be honest, when Maeve first arrived, she had little to no training, was under-socialized, and full of energy. This could be overwhelming for potential adopters, and as she grew bigger, her energy became even more intimidating. But over the past few months, Maeve has made remarkable progress, even thriving in our Doggy Day Out program! While she can still be a bit energetic, she settles down nicely once she’s outside, away from the busy shelter environment. Maeve absolutely loves to play and will happily entertain herself with any toy you give her. She has LOVED participating in doggy playgroups and going for walks with her fur friends! After some exercise, training, or playtime, she’s ready to curl up next to you for snuggles. She has proven to be such a lover girl, often rolling over at her friend’s feet or in their lap for love!

Maeve is extremely treat-motivated, which makes her a quick learner and eager to please. She is already crate-trained, knows basic commands, and walks well on a harness. While Maeve would LOVE a home with another dog, she is seeking a home without kitties!

VOLUNTEER WITH HAP💛🐾 As we close out National Volunteer Month, take a look at just a few of the ways you can make a difference for animals in need!

🐾 AT THE SHELTER
Whether you’re looking to hang with animals or help tidy up our shelter, we are always in need of on-site volunteers! Some essential daily tasks include cleaning, laundry, organizing the food pantry, walking dogs, or socializing cats. Your helping hands keep our facility running smoothly and our animals happy!

🐶 DOGGY DAY OUT
Brighten a shelter dog’s day with a special day out! Take a HAP pup to a local park, your home, or even a pet-friendly café or store. It’s a fun way to give our dogs a break from the busy shelter environment to relax and soak up some love!

🏠 FOSTER AT HOME
Open your heart and home to a shelter animal in need! Fostering provides a safe, loving space for pets to decompress while they wait or prepare for adoption. At HAP, we provide all of the supplies you’ll need, you provide the love!

🎉 IN THE COMMUNITY
From vaccine clinics and pop-up food pantries to adoption and meet-and-greet events, your support helps us reach more people and pets across the community!

BEAUTIFUL BOY🤩💙 Meet Bentley, our 3-year-old

BEAUTIFUL BOY🤩💙 Meet Bentley, our 3-year-old perfect gentleman who loves everyone he meets!

Bentley came to HAP when his previous owner could no longer care for him. Despite this big change, he has been super sweet with our staff and volunteers! Bentley is a cuddly boy who always wants to be by your side, the true definition of a Velcro dog. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and knows basic commands. He absolutely loves treats, chew bones, and his favorite tire toy. Bentley prefers other dogs that can coexist well. He has loved participating in our Doggy Day Out program, check out what our volunteers had to say about him:

“Bentley was very excited to see us and gave lots of kisses! We chilled at my house for a few minutes, then went for a walk on the green at UD, stopping by Starbucks for a pup cup! He was pulling on the leash a little bit at first, because he was so excited, but he calmed down after a few minutes. He was a super good boy on our walk and did not react to other people or the one other dog that walked nearby. We definitely tuckered him out because he stopped to lay down mid-walk LOL. He didn’t bark once! Bentley was such a joy to have and would make such a lovable pet!!” - Paige

“Bentley was such a good boy! We took a walk at a local park. Since the weather was so warm and I noticed his energy dying down, we laid under a tree for a break. I think he’s not aware of his size, as he was lying on top of me like he was a cat! Overall super well-behaved, especially around children and other dogs. While he was super energetic to get out of the car, I think he’s such a wonderful dog for someone who wants a high energy but super cuddly dog!” - Kimberly
