SWEET AS CHOCOLATE 🐶🍫 We are reintroducing our snuggliest girl, miss Mocha!

Mocha is a 5 year old terrier mix that loves meeting new people and kiddos! She came to HAP when her owners could no longer keep a pet. Despite being raised in a home, Mocha quickly settled into the shelter and has been quite the staff and volunteer favorite! While Mocha loves all people, she is overlooked at the shelter because she would need to be the only pet in a home. Mocha already knows basic commands, walks well with a harness, appears house-trained, and is non-destructive! She rose to fame for her wiggly butt, adorable tip-taps, and her beautiful smile! Mocha has been a star in our Doggy Day Out program. Check out what our volunteers have to say about her:

“We had the best day with Mocha!! She is the sweetest pup who loves any person she meets. We went on a walk and took a nap on the couch. She walks great on leash, and sits on command. Anyone would be lucky to have her!“ - Brianna

She loved our walk around the UD campus and said hi to many people. We went to a coffee shop and she was so happy that everyone wanted to pet her. Mocha is such an amazing girl and would be perfect for anyone looking for a loving companion.” - Abby

READY TO RUN 🦮🏃‍♀️ Our friends at Seashore Striders Delaware are hosting their 16th annual Race for Paws 5K and 1m Dog walk!

Come meet adoptable dogs, sip on refreshing drinks, and soak up some summer sun! Our HAP team will be there accepting donations, while our pups lean in for love!

The race begins promptly at 7:30AM on Saturday, August 3rd. Packet pick-up is located at Dewey Beach Lions Club; 115 McKinley St., Dewey Beach, DE.

DANI’S JOURNEY🥹🩵 Last month, we received a

DANI’S JOURNEY🥹🩵 Last month, we received a message from a high-intake shelter in West Virginia, asking for our help. Dani was days away from giving birth, and their shelter did not have space for pups. As a result, Dani was placed on a euthanasia list. While that decision is heartbreaking, it’s the reality of many shelters and rescue groups nationwide. At the time, HAP was overcapacity, but we knew she deserved a chance! We shared Dani’s story on social media and found a foster just in time, saving Dani and her pups! Our team hit the road that same day to bring momma Dani to Delaware.

Upon arrival to HAP, our veterinary team examined Dani and checked on her pups, to ensure she was doing well after her journey. While some mommas can be protective or reluctant to trust during pregnancy, Dani was a massive sweetheart with our team. She headed to a loving and safe foster home, where she could comfortably welcome her new little ones to the world! A week later, Dani gave birth to 7 beautiful pups. Her foster family says she has been an incredible mother, spending all her time with her kiddos. Dani’s pups are about 4 weeks old and have even begun moving around on their own!

TWO CUTE 🐶🩵 This #HAPWoofWednesday we are pleased to introduce the floofiest foster pups, Lars and Lennox!

Lars and Lennox are 3.5 month old shepherd mixes, weighing about 30 lbs. These sweet, beautiful pups are from a litter of 8 that we saved last month. Their litter quickly went to foster, thankfully avoiding the state-wide Canine Influenza outbreak many shelters are facing. They were examined by our vet this week and have been cleared for adoption from their foster home! In their foster home, they have met adult dogs, children, and shown curiosity with cats. Here is what their foster has to say about them:

“Lennox is white with adorable spots and Lars is a blonde beauty! Their sweet, affectionate, and loving personalities are sure to melt hearts. They adore going for walks, playing with each other, and exploring in the backyard. They love meeting people and have done wonderfully with children. Both are very well-mannered when meeting other dogs, trying to play whenever they get the chance! Lennox is learning to walk on a leash and is very good at sitting on command. Lars does a great job coming when called, joyfully sprinting over to you. Their interests include chasing balls or sticks, playing with hard chew toys, and napping. Lennox enjoys being pet and belly rubs. While Lars is a big time snuggler, climbing into your lap. Above all, Lennox and Lars love life!”
